Based on feedback from a few of you (thank you!) who responded to the question regarding UNL’s Center for Entrepreneurship separating out a separate evening for high school and 2 year postsecondary on Wednesday, November 2nd, they have decided NOT to do that this year.  Instead, they will keep everything on November 3rd, (separate competition suites for high school, 2 year and 4 year postsecondary).

Wednesday evenings, coupled with the timing close to some of the CTSO fall regional conferences made November 2nd questionable.  At some point in the future, I’m going to try to host a conversation between the Eship Center and some of you to explore how/when they could best engage CTE students and CTSO members with this event and other activities they host.

That said, please still encourage your teachers/advisers in the Lincoln/Omaha/Southeast Nebraska general area to consider participating.  It’s an awesome event, set in the East Stadium Skybox Suites, and a great opportunity to network and for students to present a really simple quick pitch for a possible $1,000 prize.

8TH ANNUAL 3-2-1 QUICK PITCH COMPETITION

November 3, 2016 • Skybox Suites of Memorial Stadium

The 3-2-1 Quick Pitch Competition gives all Nebraska high school, 2 year college, and 4 year college students an opportunity to showcase their entrepreneurial, communication, and presentation skills through a short “quick pitch” proposal for a new business venture. Students will apply and then be invited to present their pitches, be evaluated, and receive feedback on the effectiveness of their pitch from a panel of entrepreneurially-minded experts from across Nebraska. Six cash prizes of $1,000 will be awarded. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

SkillsUSA & the Nebraska State Fair - Hotrods and Huskers

Advisors and Board members,

SkillsUSA Nebraska applied for and has received the second place award for Nebraska State Fair Cares.  We have a booth at the State Fair on Saturday and Sunday, September 27 – 28.  We receive many admission passes and parking passes for those people who are part of our booth for those days.

We are frantically trying to get a plan for this booth space & thought we would share our ideas -  we would like your ideas as well.

They provide a 20 x 20 tent, with a small area outside the tent.  We are looking at having as much Skills information as possible and then some handouts and freebies for those coming to our booth.  They would like for us to have some activity to draw people to the booth as patrons will not be coming to us to purchase items you might normally see at a fair – we are not selling mops or fried Oreo cookies!!

We would like to possibly have some skills demonstrations, just not sure what, when and how we do that.  We have discussed maybe something in Carpentry, Culinary, Commercial Baking, Robotics, Welding, Cosmetology, Promotional Bulletin Board, Chapter Display, Drone.

We could model the booth after the Carhartt booth at nationals, where the patrons get to spin a wheel to win a small giveaway prize.  But first, they would have to go through a small maze,  read several information segments about SkillsUSA, complete 6-8 questions.

We will have several of our banners hanging along with our red SkillsUSA table coverings.  I have been wanting a SkillsUSA flag so we will purchase one of those and fly it proudly.

We are also going to hold our Annual Foundation Scholarship Tailgate (Hot Rods and Huskers) along with a tour of Kuck’s AutoSport Museum in Lincoln on Saturday, October 15.  This is an away Husker game (Indiana), so it will be a bit different from the traditional home-night game we have experienced the past 4-5 years.  More on this later as we need to make decisions on costs and just what the tailgate should look like this year. Kuck’s will be from 10 – noon, then the tailgate starts after that.

This is not  your welcome back email!!!!
